​Android and iOS have beaten their rivals

Gartner analytical agency calculated the number of smartphones used in the last quarter of 2016 and determined the type of operating systems installed on them. Their research showed that the era of BlackBerry smartphones and Symbian OS as market leader has disappeared entirely and now Apple and Android are king. Their combined market share is 99,6%. In the second quarter of 2015 the popularity rating of these OS’s was 96,8%. Experts attribute it to the fact BlackBerry OS and Windows Mobile smartphones are no longer produced and sold in numbers which they had been nowadays. Canadian company BlackBerry just posted its first end of quarter result of 0%, selling only a bit more than 200.000 phones in the 4th quarter of 2016. Microsoft fairs a little better, with only 0,3% of all mobile devices on the market. The companies’ prospects are not very bright. Apple and Google keep conquering the market. Currently iOS has 17,9% (77 mln gadgets) of market share, Android has 81,7% (351 mln devices). Google OS is far ahead of Apple, but iOS is several steps ahead of Google in terms of the installation rate of updates.
